Welcome to the Web Site for
American Legion District 5—Massachusetts

American Legion Baseball has a long heritage.
The American Legion has sponsored a nationwide youth baseball program since 1925.
District 5 of Massachusetts has been an integral part of America’s oldest, nationwide Amateur Baseball Program. Our program teaches youth the importance of teamwork, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship. Players are given an opportunity to develop their skills, personal fitness, and leadership qualities and to have fun.

Many American Legion Baseball Alumni can say they played Major League Baseball. There are over 500 Legion graduates enjoying major league careers. Players like George Brett, Mark McGwire, Don Mattingly, Ryan Sandberg and Roger Clemens. Baseballs' Hall of Fame has 37 Legion baseball alumni, with names like Tom Seaver, Brooks Robinson, Willy Stargell, Johnny Bench and Yogi Berra.

For most young men who will play collegiate and professional baseball, the American Legion program is the final stop before moving to the game’s higher levels and greater rewards.

There are many volunteer hours by coaches and supporters of American Legion Baseball. San Francisco Giants scout Mike Twomey once said, "My hats off to all the coaches who coach Legion ball. They really have to be commended for all the time they give to the kids. They’re doing it for free. They’re giving up their whole summers. They’re dedicating themselves to these kids."
